December Newsletter

December is always such a fun time of year at Doggie Oasis. We get to welcome so many new and old faces for the holidays, and we always have so much fun playing Secret Santa. Last week we had a blast with our first ever Black Tuesday 1/2 price day care deal! We had lots of dogs playing and taking advantage of their special bath bundle for $15.

Space is filling up for Christmas, so make sure to make your reservation soon. We do require a $100 deposit towards your stay when you make a reservation. This is not refundable if you cancel with less than 72 hours notice. While we are still staffed, we are closed on Christmas Day. Remember we do also offer Pawjama Parties for dogs that find their own home a better fit.

Thank you,
Elissa H.G. Burda
Owner

Canine Influenza Update

New Waiver Option

There have been a lot of questions and some confusion with our new Canine Influenza vaccine requirements. We understand that people can be uncomfortable giving yet another vaccine to their dog. At the same time, all of our dog's health and well being is of the utmost importance. Over the last couple of months, we have learned that there is even more disagreement then we thought within the Las Vegas veterinary community regarding the vaccine for H3N8. While we do believe it is in your dog's best interest to receive the vaccine, we also believe this is something that you should discuss and decide on with your vet. After discussing with your vet, if you are unable to get a vaccine or a waiver, we will provide one from Doggie Oasis.

New Year's Eve Slumber Party
Happy New YearIt is time for our 3rd annual New Years Eve Slumber Party! Have your dog bring in the new year with all of his best friends. Woofball Week 13 Results

Well, last night's game wasn't pretty. Baltimore scored all 14 of their points in the first 30 seconds of the second half. Nothing in the first half, nothing after. Both teams combined threw 9 interceptions. Yuck.

The good news, however, is that Green Bay won and so therefore did Moose, the one and only dog to pick the Packers. Congratulations, Moosey Goose! You get a $10 gift certificate!

Our Woofball winner for this week was Rosebud!

I can't believe this is week 14 of football season!  It always goes so fast.  Monday night's game is Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers.  The Cards are 3.5 point favorites, and our rescue this week is The German Shepherd Rescue of Las Vegas :

German Shepherd Rescue Las Vegas is an organization of dedicated volunteers committed to offering essential care, rehabilitation and adoption services to neglected, stray and owner surrendered German Shepherd Dogs in the Las Vegas Valley.  German Shepherd Rescue Las Vegas came into being out of a love and admiration of this noble breed. Each of these animals have an instinctive potential to develop an unwavering love for their human companions. We have committed to giving each of these dogs a unique opportunity to share their love, companionship and natural protective instincts with an adoptive family.

Good luck, everyone!

Blast from the Past

It's a cold, rainy day here in Vegas, but the pups are nice and warm in our facility.  I have been avoiding the lack of sun by looking through old pictures from Back In The Day, and it's been so fun!  There are dogs that I know and love, dogs I've never met (but have heard stories about!), dogs I haven't seen in a while and miss, and even pictures of dogs I know as adults and they're just teeny tiny puppies!  There's also a picture of a pig somewhere in there, but I don't know the story behind that. :)

And can I say, our place looks SO much better after the reconstruction earlier this year!

I hope you enjoy these pictures.  There are a ton, and I keep finding more, so I'm going to make an album on facebook to hold the rest!

Birthday Boy Boris

Zoe S.

Zoe is usually pretty mellow, hanging about and wanting to be pet, but sometimes she just loses her mind and starts running around for no particular reason. It's adorable.

More than tails wagging

Do you see what all these dogs have in common? Pictures are from today: :)

Yup, everyone has their tongue hanging out.  We've had the toys out for a long time now, and everyone's been running and chasing and fetching.  They're tired and breathing hard!   Time for a nap, I think.

Woofball Week 12 Results

Last night's MNF game was watched by more people than the Superbowl.  Were you one of them?

The line was -2 for the Saints, but they blew that out of the water.  Their stellar offense made the Pats mighty defense look like high schoolers.  Drew Brees threw for five touchdowns, each one to a different receiver.  Tom Brady looked like he was reliving the 2008 Superbowl.  And the Saints covered and then some.  Now if only they had gotten the over, a certain blogger's husband (ahem, hi honey!) wouldn't have come home in a terrible mood. :)

The drawing winner for this week is Bowzer!  He will receive a $10.00 gift certificate for any Doggie Oasis service for picking the Saints to win.  And really, did anyone think they wouldn't?

Monday's Woofball winner was Watson!

He will receive a football when he goes home!

Congratulations you two. :)

This week's MNF game is the Baltimore Ravens at the Green Bay Packers.  The Packers are 3 point favorites, which make it about even for the game.

Our rescue group this week is Las Vegas Hot-Diggity Dachshund Club and Rescue :

Saving the World One Wiener At a Time

For those of you who don’t know, we are a Non-Profit 501(c)3, Charitable Organization.  We are both a club and a rescue.  We provide support to our members and offer great social opportunities with our beloved dachshunds. As a Club we have Play Days and other monthly events.  We also host a few large events a year such as our Annual Hallo-Wiener Club Picnic!  More details about these large events are found under the “Major Events” tab. We also host fundraisers for other local non-profit rescues such as our Santa Paws collection drive in December.
As a Rescue we strive to help the unwanted and unfortunate dachshunds out there. We understand and know that we can not save them all but we can help the ones that we can, “Saving the world one Wiener at a time.”  We work from the love in our hearts for the breed and are always in need of foster homes and volunteers.

Good luck everyone!

Thanksgiving Live Blog

9:30pm
The minis are super excited for some reason!  I'm letting them play together for a while.
I'm going through the bigger dogs and playing ball, or snuggling, or whatever they want for one on one time.

10:08pm
Everyone's mostly settled into sleep.  Someone's even snoring.  The mini's, however, are still partying. :)

10:34pm
 Hee hee, look at Boris:

11:35pm
Dishes and laundry are going. Murphy the mini Schnauzer and Blake the Yorkie won't go to sleep. Francis woke up from a nap and is eating her untouched kibble.

12:39am
Miss Parker is having twitchy dreams.  I wonder if she's dreaming about chasing the ball?  Here she is a little earlier with the rest of the ball-crazies. :)

1:38am
Triscuit just drank a lake of water and then Truffle peed it out.  Siblings.

2:24am
Cassie was a little restless.  I thought she needed to use the potty room, but it turns out she just needed a cuddle.  No problem, sweetie!

3:35am
Everyone is finally asleep...at the same time!

5:00am
Time to wake up!

Woofball Week 11 results

Sorry for the delay!  We're swamped with Thanksgiving preparations.  But what's Thanksgiving without football?

The Titans and Texans battled it out on Monday night, the game close until the very last seconds.  The Titans had a chance to tie it with a field goal, but missed.  Texans won by 3, beating the odds.

Our drawing winner this week was Grace!  Since she picked the underdog and they won, she will receive $25 off any  doggie oasis service.  She's scheduled for our Black Tuesday deal (1/2 price daycare, $15 bath), so she's going to get a day of day care and a bath for $5!  Wow!

Our Woofball winner this week was Bella!  She will receive a doggie football when she goes home after Thanksgiving.

Week 12 should be very exciting -- The Patriots at the unbeaten Saints.  The Saints are only 3 point favorites, and given home field advantage, the odds are virtually even.  Should be a great game.

Our rescue group this week is again So. NV Australian Shepherd and Border Collie Rescue

"I am an independant rescuer who loves Aussies and Border Collies and all four legged friends! I have dedicated all of my free time to saving dogs and finding them the best new homes possible. Full of unconditional love, these dogs will be the best friend you will have!"

Good luck, and have a safe holiday weekend!

Ellie and Roxy

This is adorable because both puppies, Ellie (blonde) and Roxy (black and white) showed up and were pretty shy. When they met it was instant chemistry, and the friendship has really opened the both of them up.

In this video they make a game out of the big slide in the corner. Enjoy!
