Woofball Week 3 Results are in!

This week's Woofball competition winner was Tank! Even though there were some faster dogs vying for the ball this week, Tank's linebacker and fumble recovery skills won the day.

This week's drawing winner was Bogey! Bogey's dad chose the Dallas Cowboys to win, and they defeated the Panthers soundly. Bogey will receive $10 off any Doggie Oasis service. Thank you to everyone who donated to the LV Basset Rescue!

Congratulations, Tank and Bogey! You will receive your prizes when you get picked up.

Monday's game is Green Bay at Minnesota. That's right, Brett "I'm retired" Favre is headed back to Green Bay with his new team. The line opened with Minnesota a 3.5 point favorite, and has since moved down to 3. And since the game is in Minnesota, it's nearly a draw on neutral turf. Make a donation to this week's rescue group and make your pick!

This week's rescue group is Animal Adoptions Ltd.:

ABOUT US

Betty Honn founded Southern Nevada's first no-kill, non-profit animal sanctuary in 1968. Since then, volunteers, contributors and patrons have made our daily operations possible.

Betty passed away in 1997, but not before saving countless thousands of animals from needless euthanasia. Her daughter, Teresa now continues the work, and is committed to fulfilling her mother's vision.

For more than 30 years, from kittens to Kodiaks, Betty Honn's Animal Adoptions, Ltd. has provided refuge for animals.

ABOUT OUR FACILITY

Animal Adoptions, Ltd. houses over 50 domestic animals. Every adoptable animal's history is known to us and that information is used in finding them new homes. Caretakers provide one-on-one attention to each animal through handling and daily exercise.

It our responsibility and policy to have all pets in our care spayed or neutered before they are placed into their new homes. This includes puppies and kittens who come into our care. Please be a responsible pet owner and spay or neuter your pet(s).

ADOPTIONS

WE HAVE A VARIETY OF DOGS. PUPPIES, & CATS FOR ADOPTION.

Good cause, good game; it's all good!

How cute is Tucker, here?! I just want to eat him up.

Week Two Woofball Winners

This week's Woofball winner was Smoke, who had the most completions. He will win a Fido Football for his efforts. And honorable mention goes to Belen for most fumbles -- she loved catching the ball, but then would drop it!

Smoke + Ball = happiness

The drawing winner this week was Moose, who's mom chose the Colts to win. The Colts were the favorites so Moose gets $10 off any Doggie Oasis service.

Congratulations, Smoke and Moose!

Monday's game will be the Caroline Panthers playing the Dallas Cowboys. Panthers are around nine point dogs right now.

This week's rescue is Las Vegas Basset Rescue:

Las Vegas Basset Rescue has been helping homeless Bassets since 1999. Basset Hounds are dropped at shelters, abandoned on the streets, and given up by their owners for various reasons. They are young, old and in-between. Some are healthy and well-socialized, just needing the basics of veterinary care. Others have been medically neglected and emotionally or physically abused. Many need all manner of veterinary care to get them into tip-top shape. They ALL need a fresh start in life with a caring family.

It is our mission to heal them and make them ready for permanent, loving homes. We have taken over 500 Bassets into rescue since we began in 1999. We strive to help each and every basset that needs a "new leash on life". The dogs are cared for in loving foster homes while they await permanent adoption. Dedicated foster families assess the dogs' personalities and needs so that they can be placed in the appropriate homes.

We are a small group of volunteers who have jobs, families, and other important commitments. No one receives a salary--all donations and funds raised go directly to pay the dogs' medical bills. We do Basset Rescue because we wish to make a difference in the lives of the breed we love.

In June of 2003 Las Vegas Basset Rescue became a 501c-3, non-profit charitable organization--making all donations tax-deductible. We also raise funds through various special events and garage sales.

If you are interested in volunteering in any way, please email us at info@rescuebassets.com Together we hope to meet the growing needs of homeless bassets in the Southern Nevada area.

Thank You,
The Volunteers of Las Vegas Basset Rescue

Please considering donating to this great rescue. Again, any donation will get you a pick for Monday night's game. If you pick Carolina and they win, you can win $25 off any Doggie Oasis service. If you pick Dallas and they win, you can win $10.

Please ask us at the desk if you have any questions!

New Toys

We went to Superzoo last week and picked up a Dura Doggie Disc -- four days later it's still intact!

Here is Cooper and Macho with their own brand of tug o war. With these two, it's more of a mental chess game than a contest of strength. And no, we did not pose them this way. Maybe they're auditioning for a Dura Doggie Disc commercial!

We've got a packed house today! Videos are uploading at Youtube, slowly.

Barkley and Xena, Warrior Princess

This is really cool because Barkley, the Schnauzer, rarely plays with anyone but his sister Piper. But Zena convinced him, or did he convince her? Either way, it was so cute to see.

Monday Night Woofball results are in!

Wow, did anyone catch the game last night? What a great game! The Raiders scored first, but the lead went back and forth the entire game. Oakland took the lead in the last quarter with two and a half minutes left on the clock, but the San Diego Chargers responded with a touchdown with only 18 seconds left in the game for the lead and the win.

Our Week 1 drawing winner is Friday! He will receive $10 off any Doggie Oasis service for choosing the Chargers to win. Our Week 1 Woofball winner is Jobe. She dominated in the back field, catching the long passes and avoiding tackles. Congratulations Jobe and Friday! Thanks to everyone who donated to Foreclosed Upon Pets, and good luck this week!

This week's sponsoring rescue group is Second Chance Rescue:
Second Chance Rescue is 501(C)3 Non-Profit organization dedicated to saving and rehoming the homeless animals of Las Vegas. Our mission is to improve the lives of homeless, abandoned, neglected, and abused animals through rescue, rehabilitations and re-homing efforts. We endeavor to remove them from harms way by pulling them from kill shelters and taking them in through owner surrenders, then providing for their immediate medical needs, evaluating their behavioral and social needs and finding suitable placements for them so they may live out the remainder of their lives happy, healthy, and well loved. We seek to show all these animals the love and respect they deserve that comes through humane care, heartfelt compassion, and the touch of human kindness.

Please check out their website, and any donation amount gets you a pick for next week's game!

Friday and Smoke at Doggie Oasis Day Care in Las Vegas, NV

Friday is pretty sure that if he can just sit on Smoke's head, he'll win at whatever game they seem to be playing. Who knows, maybe he's right!

What's going on today at Doggie Oasis Daycare 09-14-09

The usual! A little quieter than normal, but that's normal in September. :)

Boris is your typical Bull Terrier -- headstrong (literally), stubborn, strong, goofy, and sleeps like the dead. But when he gets the zoomies, WATCH OUT! He can knock you over before you even see him coming.

Udon and Churro

When Churro first started to come to Doggie Oasis, he was very shy and didn't play very much with other dogs. One boarding trip later, he's doing so much better!

Finnegan says "BALL IS MINE"

Bulldogs are so funny about their balls. Finnegan here definitely doesn't want anyone else playing with HIS ball!

Pawjama Party

Does your dog do better with people than dogs? Maybe loves his house so much, he never wants to leave? He no longer has to with Pajama Parties! Dogs who don't qualify for our cage-free environment, or who need a little extra one-on-one attention can stay at their own home for their next vacation. Hosts are screened extensively and will stay overnight in your home caring for your dog. Your dog will receive lots of love, walks, and have a great time at their own Pawjama Party!

Talulah may be young and small, but she's not afraid to chase Charlie around the room. I think Charlie doesn't know quite what to do with her.
