Thanksgiving Live Blog

9:30pm
The minis are super excited for some reason!  I'm letting them play together for a while.
I'm going through the bigger dogs and playing ball, or snuggling, or whatever they want for one on one time.

10:08pm
Everyone's mostly settled into sleep.  Someone's even snoring.  The mini's, however, are still partying. :)

10:34pm
 Hee hee, look at Boris:

11:35pm
Dishes and laundry are going. Murphy the mini Schnauzer and Blake the Yorkie won't go to sleep. Francis woke up from a nap and is eating her untouched kibble.

12:39am
Miss Parker is having twitchy dreams.  I wonder if she's dreaming about chasing the ball?  Here she is a little earlier with the rest of the ball-crazies. :)

1:38am
Triscuit just drank a lake of water and then Truffle peed it out.  Siblings.

2:24am
Cassie was a little restless.  I thought she needed to use the potty room, but it turns out she just needed a cuddle.  No problem, sweetie!

3:35am
Everyone is finally asleep...at the same time!

5:00am
Time to wake up!

Woofball Week 11 results

Sorry for the delay!  We're swamped with Thanksgiving preparations.  But what's Thanksgiving without football?

The Titans and Texans battled it out on Monday night, the game close until the very last seconds.  The Titans had a chance to tie it with a field goal, but missed.  Texans won by 3, beating the odds.

Our drawing winner this week was Grace!  Since she picked the underdog and they won, she will receive $25 off any  doggie oasis service.  She's scheduled for our Black Tuesday deal (1/2 price daycare, $15 bath), so she's going to get a day of day care and a bath for $5!  Wow!

Our Woofball winner this week was Bella!  She will receive a doggie football when she goes home after Thanksgiving.

Week 12 should be very exciting -- The Patriots at the unbeaten Saints.  The Saints are only 3 point favorites, and given home field advantage, the odds are virtually even.  Should be a great game.

Our rescue group this week is again So. NV Australian Shepherd and Border Collie Rescue

"I am an independant rescuer who loves Aussies and Border Collies and all four legged friends! I have dedicated all of my free time to saving dogs and finding them the best new homes possible. Full of unconditional love, these dogs will be the best friend you will have!"

Good luck, and have a safe holiday weekend!

Ellie and Roxy

This is adorable because both puppies, Ellie (blonde) and Roxy (black and white) showed up and were pretty shy. When they met it was instant chemistry, and the friendship has really opened the both of them up.

In this video they make a game out of the big slide in the corner. Enjoy!

Catch, not Fetch.

I would call it fetch if Riley would actually bring the ball back to me!

Roscoe finds a seat...on Smoke

Roscoe, you just get comfortable. Surprisingly, Smoke doesn't seem to mind being a doggie bed.

Week 10 Woofball Results

Ouch, Cleveland, ouch.  Shut out 16-0 at home.  And you, Baltimore, you're lucky you were playing the Browns and not a real team.

...And that's about all you can say about last night's game.  Too bad Sunday's Colts/Patriots game wasn't MNF!  THAT was a good game.

Week 10's double winner is Riley!  He won both Woofball on Monday and then his name was drawn today to win $10 off any Doggie Oasis service!  Congratulations Riley!

Let's hope this week's game is more exciting.  The Houston Texans are favorites against the Tennesee Titans. Our rescue this week is Second Chance Rescue:

Who is Second Chance Animal Rescue and what is their goal? Second Chance Rescue is a 501 (C) 3 Non-Profit organization dedicated to saving and rehoming the homeless animals of Las Vegas. Our mission is to improve the lives of homeless, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs through our rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing efforts. We endeavor to remove them from harm‘s way by pulling them from kill shelters, taking them in through owner surrenders, providing for their immediate medical needs, evaluating their behavioral and social needs, then finding suitable placements for them so that they may live out the remainder of their lives happy, healthy, and well loved. We seek to show all these animals the love and respect they deserve that comes through humane care, heartfelt compassion, and the touch of human kindness. When our dogs are placed, SCAR requires an adoption contract to be signed by the adoptive family. We hold this as a legal and binding contract between the rescue and the adoptive family insuring the future well being of their new family member. SCAR also requires an adoption fee with each adoption so that our rescue may cover the inevitable costs involved in pulling, vetting, maintaining, and placing these needy dogs. Each new rescue dog requires a hefty financial outlay. Adoption fees enable us to continue our rescue efforts by supporting ongoing expenses and provide reimbursement for the cost of the spay/neuter, microchipping, and any veterinary care required prior to placement, and in most instances, even travel costs. In all cases, the expenses related to a particular dog will be covered by the set adoption fee. While the adoption fees may seem higher for some dogs, please remember that our rescue has invested tons of time, effort, and money into all these dogs. We simply must recoup this investment in order to continue rescuing needy animals. You may also consider that if a higher adoption fee is beyond your means, you may need to consider a pet which does not require as much care and expense as a dog. However, keep in mind, the normal care and upkeep of any pet requires an ongoing financial outlay.

Where does Second Chance get their animals?
Second Chance usually takes in last day animals from Las Vegas' Shelters, we also take in strays and animals surrendered by their owners.

How do I adopt from Second Chance?
Anyone interested in adopting from SC must fill out an adoption application. Adoption fees range from $50-$300 depending on the animal. Second Chance also likes to bring the animal to the applicants home to make sure the environment is safe and sound for the new family member.

What is included in my adoption?
Before our animals our adopted out they are up to date on vaccines, microchipped and spayed/neutered. If the animal is to young to be altered there is an additional and 100% refundable deposit that will be returned once the animal has been fixed, in addition to this a spay/neuter contract is also be necessary.

What if I have an animal I need to surrender?
Second Chance takes in mostly small breed dogs but will take in any animal of any breed when space is available. If Second Chance does not have space available we will help you to place your pet in a foster home or no-kill rescue elsewhere.

How can I help? There are several ways people can help us. The biggest one is by spaying and neutering your pets. Secondly, we always need donations, whether it be animal supplies, food, towels, or money, the smallest bit helps. All donations are 100% tax deductible, and receipts can be provided upon request. We are also always in need of foster parents for our animals.

Good luck in Week 11!
